土壤与农业可持续发展国家重点实验室访问学者David G. Rossiter在我室访问工作期间将就地统计学概念基础（Conceptual basis of Geostatistics）对我室研究生和工作人员进行专题系列讲座，分为：1. Inferential statistics to model the real world;  Concepts of statistical modeling. 2. A universal model of spatial variability; first steps in geostatistical modelling and inference.3. Practical geostatistical analysis: selecting the right technique for each problem.主要内容包括：1. Modeling the real world; 2. Inferential statistical to model the world; 3. Statistical modeling; 4. A universal model of spatial variation; 5. Geostatistics  as a branch of inferential statistics; 6. Modeling choices in geostatistical analysis。

    2012年10月17日上午，Rossiter教授在惠联楼第二学术报告厅对报告的前三半部分：如何建立模型描述客观世界进行了详细的讲解。报告对建模过程的意义、模型类型、统计模型的建立、验证与应用进行了讲解。   Rossiter教授的讲解详尽清晰，富有逻辑推理，报告既有深刻的理论分析，又结合我们科研工作实例进行细致分析讨论，并与听众有着良好热烈的讨论交流，报告取得了很好的成效，期待Rossiter教授的后续精彩讲座。
