先后赴德国、澳大利亚、美国、芬兰等国家访问和合成交流。主要从事精准施肥技术研发与应用研究。利用模型膜技术和水基反应成膜技术开展了聚合物包膜肥料的研制,建立了养分释放的理论模型(扩散模型)和经验模型(人造神经网络),丰富了养分控释理论,并在聚合物包膜肥料的研制上取得了重要进展;具备了光谱分析和工程数学分析能力,利用傅里叶红外衰减全反射光谱(FTIR-ATR)和氮同位素原位研究了土壤中的铵态氮的硝化过程,同时基于人工神经网络和偏最小二乘法模型,首次将傅里叶转换红外光声光谱 (FTIR-PAS)应用于土壤分类研究,取得了良好的初步进展,将FTIR-ATR应用于在线监控聚合物包膜肥料养分的释放,并将FTIR-PAS逐步拓展到水基反应聚合物膜的研究,为监控和表征水基反应进程和程度提供了强有力的手段。

美国土壤学会土壤与植物分析专业委员会委员、国际土壤学会土壤近距传感专家组成员、中国肥料产业创新联盟专家委员会委员、中国中微量元素创新联盟专家委员会委、江苏省测土配方施肥协会副理事长。北京2008年奥运会火炬手、国家一级社会体育指导员。
Soil Science Society of America Journal (SSSAJ) 副主编(AE)、Scientific Reports 编委、PLOS ONE 客座编辑、《中国农业科学》栏目编委、《植物营养与肥料学报》编委。
